On the evening of December 1, 2007, West Virginia University and its fans prepared to celebrate the greatest athletics achievement in school history. They were about to play for the college football national championship and with arguably their most talented team ever, they were in good position to win it too. All they had to do first was dispose of a 4-7 Pitt team who they were favored to beat by 28 points at home. What happened next stunned an entire state, brought down a conference, and sent shockwaves throughout the college football world.
